The Istanbul tulip festival

Hi Frugalistas!  I noticed it as soon as my bus left Istanbul airport – tulips.  Lots of tulips.  Every April Istanbul welcomes spring with a tulip festival.  Tulips are a traditional flower in Turkey and feature heavily in Islamic art.  The whole city goes made with tulips in every colour and every design.  From humble offerings in streetside plantings to the glorious display in the Gulhane Park, tulips are a major part of Istanbul in April.

If you are planning a spring visit to Istanbul, go in April and enjoy this wonderful display.

Looks wonderful. Just debating when to go to Istanbul. So April is a good choice?

If you like flowers! Also not so busy with cruise ships….just remember April next year is the centenary of Gallipoli so Turkey will be overrun with ANZACs in April!

I do love flowers but no way do I want to be in Turkey for the centenary of Gallipoli which I consider to be one of the worst massacres of all time. Thanks for the warning Jo!
